Whitsundays switches on to NBN

MAY 3, 2016: THE WHITSUNDAYS is wired and ready for NBN action with the first of 6,400 premises across Airlie Beach, Cannonvale, Jubilee Pocket and Mandalay able to order a Fibre to the Node service this month.

There will be a progressive switch on over the next two months with all 6,400 premises having access by the end of June.

To assist with the change in technology, I will host community information sessions in Airlie Beach and Proserpine on Monday, May 16.

The availability of fast broadband will transform how people in the region live their lives and do business as the NBN will provide a quantum leap in the reliability and speed of services available.

Fibre to the node will enable families and businesses to access high speed broadband, with less disruption to the community and at less cost to the taxpayer.

I encourage Whitsunday residents to look out for a letter in the mail from NBN confirming that your premise is NBN ready. This will outline all of the information you need ahead of making the switch.

Residents should take their time and have a look at the various packages which will be offered by a range of providers, because there is no need to rush into a connection. And remember this is not just about the internet; it’s your phone line too.

You have 18 months to consider your options and shop around.

NBN community information sessions will be held in Proserpine and Airlie Beach on May 16.

If you are interested in finding out what’s available to you from an NBN expert please RSVP to my office on 4944 0662, or email george.christensen.mp@aph.gov.au

What we have taking place here is a huge shift in communications technology, and that can get confusing because residents will connect to the NBN via a mix of technologies.
